UPDATE:Following a review of the results the Men’s team were later awarded the bronze medal in the Dublin Championships. Well done guys!
A team of 17 CSH’ers lined up on Sunday May 6 to race the Tallaght AC 5k, which also incorporates the Dublin Novice championships. It was the sunniest weekend of the year so far but we all managed to resist the lure of BBQs and beers on a bank holiday Saturday to line up well-hydrated and lathered in factor 50.
Despite being touted as a flat course, a climb around two-thirds of the way into the race hit many of us hard. That combined with the heat meant that most of us resembled Steve Staunton in USA ’94 by the time we made it onto the finishing track. Despite the tough conditions, the club recorded some great results.
The unstoppable Ashley Ryan was the first of our ladies home. Her PB time of 17:22 awarded her second place overall but placed her first in the Dublin Novice Championships. Well done Ashley! Grainne Butler also had a great run, finishing in bang on 20 minutes and first O50. Great running also from Brid Ryan who narrowly missed out on 3rd novice place with her finishing time of 20:22. Gemma Treacy was next home in a PB time of 21:00, followed by myself in 21:18, Mairead O’Shaughnessy in 21:36 and Maria Mellsopp in 22:23.
The ladies team consisting of Ashley, Grainne and Brid was first-placed team. Well done girls! A broken printer (?) meant that we had to wait to find out the winner of the Novice team. That was later confirmed to be CSH again, this time the team was Ashley, Brid, Gemma and myself. Confused? Yeah, me too. But regardless, what great results. G’wan the girls!
Our men’s team also recorded some great times. Eoin Devlin flew home in 16:18, placing him 9th overall. Well done Eoin. He was followed by Bernard Duggan in another great time of 16:34. Eanna Kavanagh had a great race finishing in 17:06. Next were Patrick Coyle in 18:04, Patrick O’Reilly (18:05), Martin Prunty (18:18), Colm Brady (18:21), Paul O’Neill (18:57), Sean Ryan (19:33) and Vincent O’Neill (20:09). Well done guys!
Belated congratulations also to Keith Farrell, Caroline Fallon, Michelle Furlong, Ashleigh Irvine and Eppie Jones who took part in the Wexford half marathon last week. Special shout-out to Keith for smashing his PB and going well under 1:40!
