Running Club in Dublin’s Phoenix Park
About Us
Civil Service Harriers Athletic Club is a running club based in the Phoenix Park in Dublin and was officially founded in 1867, making it Ireland’s oldest athletic club.
However, these days you don’t have to be a Civil Servant to join the club. The club is comprised of runners of all levels and abilities who meet and run in the Phoenix Park. If you live in or near Dublin and are interested in joining a running club then take a look at our new members information section for details.
Train with us
What do you want to get out of training? Are you struggling training on your own and would like to meet up with like minded runners?
Why not contact us and try out a few of our sessions for free before committing to joining the club. We meet at our clubhouse in the Phoenix Park for training on Tuesday and Thursday’s at 7pm and Saturday morning’s at 10am.
“A good laugh and a long run are the two best cures for anything”
The author of Dracula, Bram Stoker, competed with the club in the 1870s while working as a civil servant in Dublin.

We do love a good race, whether its a Park Run, BHAA Cross Country, 5k or even a Marathon. For those missing the out on that race day buzz have a read of some of our race reports and hopefully you will be back at the start line soon.

We had a sizeable contingent racing in the National 5k on Sunday which took place in the familiar surrounds of the Phoenix Park. It wasn’t the easiest of courses with a tough climb out of the Furry Glen before the finishing stretch on Furze road.
We had a different kind of race this weekend with three teams toeing the line for the National Road Relays which took place on a 1 mile loop along the roads of Raheny. We had three teams in the mix – Masters O50 Men (Sean Ryan, Padraig Creed, Nick Devery), Senior Women (Deirdre McCarthy, Laura Cullen, Claire Shanahan) and Senior Men (Patrick O’Reilly, Declan Cassells, Brian Walls, Aaron Mullen).
This is something a lot of people ask but don’t worry this is just our name, the club is open to all new members. The club was originally formed in 1867 and named Civil Service Harriers as most of the members were Civil Servants.
New members should be comfortably able to jog 5km before attending training sessions. It is important that you always consult your doctor before starting any exercise program.
All members must be 18 years old or over.
We have various standards from elite athletes to beginners.
