BHAA Garda XC and
Trim 10 mile

BHAA GARDA XC
There were tough conditions last Saturday for the Garda XC races up on the Munich hills. Runners had to contend with strong winds as they tackled the two uphill sections of the course.
The ladies race consisted of two laps of the short course. Gemma Treacy had a great run, working her way through the field to finish in 7th place and first O40. Grainne Butler had time to tie her laces twice while she raced to 10th place, and first O55. Margaret Moloney and Mairead Cullen finished in 58th and 77th respectively. Well done ladies.
Next up was the 4 mile race – one short lap and two long. Eoin Devlin was well up in the mix, finishing in 5th place and very close to the leaders. Great running from Eoin. Dave Hipwell also had a great run finishing in 36th. Nick Devery (65th), Noel Ryan (66th) and Ronan Ward (72nd) had a great battle with Nick just about getting the edge. Ronan also got 2nd in his age category. Finishing next were Mark Carroll (98), Paul Cullen (100), Tom O’Flaherty (133), Sean Croly (145) and Tom Turner. Well done to everyone racing.
Trim 10 Mile
A small group of us took the quick spin out to Trim for their 10 mile road race. It’s a generally flat course so lends itself to some fast times. It was a congested start but some space opened up we made our way out to the country roads. We had the wind at our back and it was unseasonably warm. At the 4 mile mark we turned into the wind and had to contend with it for the rest of the race.
The wind had no bearing on Jill and Siobhan, both of whom had great runs. Jill finished in 1:05:48, 14th overall, with Siobhan not far behind in 1:06:38, 18th female and possibly a PB. Brid Ryan finished really strong over the last 2 miles, finishing in 1:12:39. I dragged myself around to finish in 1:13:49 but it was enough for us to get second team overall.
