Tallaght AC 5k and Dublin Novice Championships

By ORLA COX

Our men’s A team were on a mission in Tallaght over the weekend. It was the Tallaght AC 5K, which also encompasses the Dublin Novice 5k championship, so there were medals up for grabs.

It was a new course this year consisting of 2 laps and finishing on the Tallaght AC track. Looked to be a few pulls here and there but the lads described it as fair. It looked more than fair based on some of the lightening fast times posted by the lads, 4 of them finishing under 17 minutes.

No surprises to hear that Eoin Devlin was first home in a blistering time of 15:36. With a 5th place finish Eoin took home the individual gold in the Dublin Novice Championship along with a shiny new PB. Well done Eoin.

Jason Reilly also continued his great run of form with a new 5k PB of 16:17. Great running from Jason. Brian Walls also picked up a PB with a time of 16:30. Well done Brian. Patrick Coyle also snuck in under 17 minutes, finishing in 16:54. Good work Podge.

The team consisting of Eoin, Jason, Brian and Podge were the clear winners in the men’s team event, making them the Dublin 5k Novice champions. Well done on the win guys. It’s been a long time brewing and a just reward for all of the hard work.

But there were some other great times still to come! Bernard Duggan was next home 17:31. Well done Bernard. Gareth Horgan was next in 17:46 and a massive new PB, breaking 18 for the first time. Great running Gareth! Thomas Geoghegan was next in 19:51, followed by Brian Boland in 21:39. Well done guys!

With a number of our women ineligible to run, it was Maria Mellsop and Emily Ennis flying the flag for the ladies. Maria was first over the line in 22:07, followed by Emily in 22:19 and a new PB. Well done ladies!
